Our Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator (RALF) Mick Davis is always on the move across the Peel-Harvey, out and about visiting farmers, meeting community groups and keeping connected to the grassroots of all things agriculture and landcare – it’s just part of the job.

Last December Mick had the chance to meet with all the other RALFs from across WA, to get the latest from DRIPD about carbon farming and food traceability and get the low down on Natural Capital Accounting from the Perth NRM team. It was a great chance to hear what other RALF are doing and ensure that stakeholders in the Peel-Harvey region are kept up-to-date with all the latest programs and developments in the sector.

Over the last few months he’s visited landholders completing projects aimed at improving on-farm productivity and protecting natural assets in places like Uduc, Quindanning, Wandering and Crossman, as well as meeting with Noongar Elders and representatives from Landcare SJ, DPRID and the National Feral Pig Management Program.

Working across such a wide and diverse sector is both exciting and challenging, but “the best thing about being a RALF is working directly with landowners who want to make a difference – and seeing changes in practice lead to more productivity, less damage to the landscape and a more resilient landscape” says Mick. If you are keen to address issues on your property, have a great project in mind or want to talk about improving the productivity of your land, contact Mick on 0402 175 770 or email mick.davis@peel-harvey.org.au. He’s always happy to help.
