Dear Aunty

How are things? I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. Everything here is well. I wanted to take a moment to share with you the immense pride and joy I’ve experienced over the past four years while being a part of the Black Cockatoo project at PHCC working with farmers, community members, and other environmental organisations.

4 years has gone fast but I have learnt so much. From the very beginning, this project has meant a lot to me. It’s not just about the countless hours of hard work or the challenges I’ve overcome; it’s about the deep connection I’ve formed with the cause and the people involved. The Black Cockatoo project isn’t just a job; it’s a passion that has touched my heart. The most rewarding part was the nest monitoring, and finding baby Black Cockatoo chicks in artificial nest hollows that we had just installed as part of the program. It feels good to know we are creating new homes for them. Working with landholders to grow more cocky food and protect the bush they have left has also been a highlight.

The journey has been filled with emotions ranging from excitement to moments of doubt, but through it all, I’ve felt a sense of purpose. Seeing our projects come to life and knowing that they contribute to the well-being of these magnificent birds has been incredibly fulfilling.

There have been times when I felt overwhelmed, but the support and camaraderie of the team have carried me through. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones, and I am proud of what we’ve accomplished. It is not just about the project itself; it’s about the positive impact it’s had on the environment and the lives of those who cherish these beautiful creatures.

Being a part of the Black Cockatoo project has been more than a job; it’s been a journey of personal growth, a testament to the power of perseverance, and a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural world. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this important work.

Thank you for your unwavering support, which has meant the world to me.

With love, Megan
