An exciting new public art project is taking flight in Mandurah, with a local sound barrier wall becoming a canvas for creativity. Artist Mark Datodi was shortlisted for the project and has created a stunning design inspired by the Sharp-tailed Sandpipers that migrate thousands of kilometres from the Arctic to our own Peel-Yalgorup Ramsar Wetlands.

Far from your everyday seagull, these amazing birds are the heart of Mark’s vision — a mural that captures their graceful arrival and the rhythm of their seasonal journey. Spending time immersed in the wetlands, the artist drew deeply from the natural landscape to reflect a sense of movement, flight, and belonging.

The design features dynamic silhouettes of the birds in motion, set against a colour palette that echoes the sky, water, and the soft contrasts of birds in flight. The result? A powerful, place-based tribute to nature’s cycles and a striking reminder of the living world just beyond the wall.

Keep an eye out as this inspiring project develops — art and environment coming together in a way that will be hard to miss.
