PHCC has been assisting landholders to revegetate stream and banks, and install stock exclusion fencing to protect seedlings planted, and to create habitats for native fauna, stabilise stream banks and prevent erosion.

Under PHCCs Bindjareb Djilba Protection Plan Project, a large revegetation project was undertaken at Keysbrook. We assisted the landholder to plant 2,000 stems in the fenced stock exclusion area of this stream. The landholder prepared the site for planting by ripping soils with a clay and gravel layer, which made planting a little easier and ensured plant roots have room for growth.

Stream revegetation is a vital land management technique aimed at rehabilitating degraded waterways and their surrounding environments. It improves water quality and restores natural hydrology and ecosystem function. It’s often part of broader river restoration or riparian rehabilitation project, and includes a suite of activities including stock exclusion fencing, planting native seedlings such as sedges and species that tolerate inundation and seasonally wet areas, weed and pest control and soil remediation.

With the help of PHCC staff, volunteers and the landholders, we completed the stream revegetation project in one day. A big thankyou to all involved, and thankyou to the weather – one of the few non-rainy days in winter.
