PHCC’s Farmers for Coordinator Christine was invited to speak to Boddington District High School students to talk about the iconic native animals in their area and what they can do to help protect these and other native species.

Over the past few years PHCC has been gathering a range of taxidermy specimens including a numbat, chuditch, woylie and kengoor or red-tailed phascogale. The students love seeing these animals up close as they are often difficult to see in the wild. The woylies, chuditch and kengoor can all be found in bushland around Boddington and recently a numbat was sighted near Boddington as well.

Students learnt about the threats to these species – the main two being land clearing and fragmentation and feral cats and foxes. The students were inspired to help protect their local threatened fauna by keeping pet cats inside or in a catio, reducing their environmental impact and most importantly telling friends and family about the amazing native fauna that we have around Boddington.  It’s heart-warming to see the enthusiasm that our next generation has for protecting the environment and conserving native animals!

We acknowledge the Noongar people as Traditional Custodians of this land and pay our respects to all Elders past and present
