What happens when you bring award winning landcarer Bruce Maynard to Wandering, Point Grey and Calingiri to speak to landholders about regenerative agriculture and stock management techniques? Not surprisingly you get a set of workshops with lots of opportunity to listen and learn from each other! See More…

In October landholders across the Peel-Harvey and Perth regions were treated to three workshops with 2022 Bob Hawke Landcare Award Winner Bruce Maynard, who was in WA thanks to a project with RegenWA and WA Regenerative Livestock Producers Inc.

Each of the workshops targeted community needs in Wandering, Point Grey and Calingiri to understand principles of regenerative agriculture and stress-free livestock handling. More than 50 landholders in total participated in the events, with Bruce sharing his knowledge and experience across the groups in an inclusive and participatory way which led to lots of conversations, ideas and information being shared.

PHCC’s agriculture team was excited to have the chance to meet Bruce and find out more about his ‘no-kill cropping’ method of producing fodder, which reduces soil disturbance and protects cover on the ground to benefit overall production.

At Point Grey the group heard from Daniel from DRIPD about the opportunities Lanza® tedera, new variety of herbaceous drought tolerant perennial pasture legume ideal for Mediterranean environments presents for low rainfall grazing areas in WA.

It was great to see Bruce demonstrate how to work with livestock in a way that promotes low stress movement, for the animals as well as the farmer! We can’t wait to have him back so more producers in WA can listen and learn from him – and share their stories with the rest of us.

Thank you to our local Peel-Harvey farmers who offered up their properties for the site visits as part of the workshops.

This event was supported by RegenWA, the WA Regenerative Livestock Producers Inc, and the Peel-Harvey Catchment Council
