David Cooling

David is a long-time local, having lived in Dawesville for the past 25 years, and in Halls Head for 10 years prior to that. His family farm where he grew up is located at the southern end of the Peel Harvey Catchment and he is helping his daughter and her family build a house on the farm. He holds a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering and has also completed a Master’s Degree in Applied Science and a PhD with Melbourne University. He has held various positions with Alcoa Corporation over a 40-year career, including operational, strategic planning and research roles. More recently, he was the global refining residue governance and technical manager with responsibilities that covered Alcoa’s impoundments across all operations. He retired from Alcoa in March of 2021, and has since been doing part time consulting, including a role with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
