You can now get involved in the re-launched Birds on Farms project! Birdlife are looking for farms and experienced birdwatchers.

In 1995 Birds Australia inaugurated a Birds on Farms project, aiming to answer important conservation questions about bird distribution, population health and habitat use on private rural land.

Over a two-year period, 110 farms were surveyed in Western Australia by 138 volunteers, recording a total of 179 bird species. Now, after 25 years the Birds on Farms Project is being relaunched in WA to build upon the successes of the original Project.

The Project engages landholders and birdwatchers to identify bird species, their behaviour, ecology, and habitat use. It uses a specific method to choose the habitat types to monitor and, a survey protocol to log bird records. Surveys are done seasonally with the help of experienced birdwatchers and interested landholders.   For more information on how the project works check out this one-pager here.
