Our neighbouring NRM, Perth NRM are producing a WA Food Security Plan and are in the process of conducting key stakeholder consultation. Industry groups and associations have the chance to participate to ensure your information is listened to and included.

Late last month Perth NRM released the interim findings of the project to Facilitate the Development of a Food Security Plan for the State of Western Australia.

Rather than to organise a physical meeting of stakeholders in Perth, Perth NRM opted to release the interim report in the form of a webinar.

You may now view this webinar here: https://youtu.be/TJeUSmrA_TM

The presentation itself runs for approximately two hours. However, it is possible to view it by chapter:

  • in the introduction we provide the rational for the project which demonstrates that food security is not just a third world issue: its also an issue for WA – as the supply chain breakdowns experienced during covid demonstrated so well. We then show how we undertook the study
  • in the chapter that follows we discuss the constraints experienced in the fresh fruit and vegetable industry both by growers and independent retailers in the Perth metropolitan area
  • the next chapter discusses the constraints experienced by broad acre pastoralists, graziers and mixed cropping enterprises. We also report on the interviews conducted with independent butchers in Perth
  • in the following chapter we interview two producers
  • in the final chapter, we discuss the limitations of the study and the next steps

The primary purpose for presenting the webinar is to provide an opportunity for other stakeholders in the WA food supply chain to comment on the constraints they are currently facing

To facilitate data collection, at the end of the webinar another link will be provided for you to enter your comments: survey@perthnrm.com

Perth NRM will leave this link open until the end of May.

To further facilitate responses from industry groups and associations, during the months of May and early June, Perth NRM welcome the opportunity to address your members at any meetings or events you might be planning to organise, either in person or virtually, depending on the time and location.

The presentation itself would last for approximately 20 minutes, followed by discussions for 20-40 minutes [depending on the time you have available] . Should you be willing to participate, by return email to survey@perthnrm.com, please provide details of the meeting [date, time and place].

Should you have any queries please contact PHCC on admin@peel-harvey.org.au or phone 6369 8800.
