An official opening and sign unveiling recently took place, set along the picturesque Hotham River at Ranford Pool.

With ongoing erosion issues along the riverbank and feedback from the community over a number of years, local community group Friends of the Reserves – Boddington (Inc.), with the assistance of PHCC and Shire of Boddington, were successful with a funding application from South 32 Worsley Alumina which allowed for design work, approval coordination, earthworks and restoration of this popular area.

PHCC assisted with project coordination, the local Shire with earthworks coordination and Newmont Australia donated geofabric, as well as supporting the project through an existing community partnership.

Once approvals were received from all relevant agencies, work commenced with rock pitching to protect the river bank, installing canoe access steps, a conversation pit (in consultation with our Local Noongar Elder) and designated walking areas. Planting of native vegetation, was conducted by many hardworking volunteers to increase the biodiversity and bring the area back to its former glory.

Today this beautiful location boasts areas for picnics, river front access and a relaxing location for families to enjoy time out while canoeing, settling in for a lazy lunch or early morning bird watching and walking.

The project is funded by South32 Worsley Alumina with support from PHCC, Shire of Boddington, Newmont Australia and Friends of the Reserves – Boddington (Inc.).

We acknowledge the Noongar people as Traditional Custodians of this land and pay our respects to all Elders past and present
