The Peel-Harvey Catchment Council is pleased to announce the launch of its 2018-19 Community Environment Grants (CEG) Program. The ever-popular CEG program assists landholders and community groups to protect key environmental assets by directly funding on-ground works such as fencing of bushland, and weed and feral animal control.

This year, the CEG program focuses on four priority areas in the Catchment: Numbat conservation, Banksia Woodland protection, on-farm native vegetation and restoration of the Lower Serpentine River.

A total of $340,000 is available to landholders and community groups to support successful projects across these four priority areas.

PHCC Acting Chair, Jan Star AM, launched the program today, urging farmers, landholders, community groups and schools to get behind the program and consider potential projects and on-ground works.

‘This program is a great way for landholders and community groups to get assistance to implement on-ground works to protect the environment and natural resources on their farm or local reserve’, said Ms Star.

The 2018-19 CEG program targets a number of threatened species and types of bushland, as well as assisting landholders more broadly who may wish to protect bushland or native vegetation on their farms.

‘This year CEG is very much about both environmental restoration and sustainable farming. Protecting and restoring the environment is not only good for our grandchildren, but also good for farming and long-term farm profitability’ said Ms Star.

Applications close on 12 November 2018, and landholders and community groups are encouraged to discuss their project idea and eligibility with the Peel-Harvey Catchment Council as soon as possible. For landholders and groups on the coastal plain and jarrah forest, phone (08) 6369 8800 or email grants@peel-harvey.org.au. For those in the Hotham-Williams Areas phone 0455 166 780 or email melanie.durack@peel-harvey.org.au.

The CEG program is supported by the Peel-Harvey Catchment Council, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program, Newmont Boddington Gold Pty Ltd and the Alcoa Foundation.
