Peel Bright Minds and PHCC celebrate National Science Week 2020 by hosting an online seminar that showcases the innovative aquaculture project “Breaming with Opportunities”.

The project aims to enhance the stocks of black bream in the Peel Harvey Estuarine system by protecting the fish from threats in early life stages through an aquaculture program run by students and teachers from John Tonkin College in partnership with scientists from Murdoch University and Peel Harvey CatchmentCouncil. The aquacultured fingerlings are then released into the estuary to enhance the existing bream population. As well as making a valuable contribution to the sustainability of the species, this project has captured the imagination of the community and illustrates and promotes the application of science to the management of our natural resources.

The seminar will be hosted in the PHCC Shed and stream lived enabling participants to ask questions of a panel of project members. The live session panelists will provide further insight into the outcomes of the initiative, future citizen science engagement opportunities and career pathways into STEM related industries such as aquaculture, fisheries management and natural resource management.

If COVID restrictions allow at the time the event may be held face to face in Mandurah or via Zoom.
