This citizen science program measures the extent of micro-plastic pollution across particular shorelines of the Peel-Yalgorup Ramsar Wetland. Students from Coodanup High School will work alongside Environmental Consultant Kate Born to conduct a micro-plastic survey. Mandurah Cruises are new to partner on this program and will be providing a vessel to transport students on the day. Sand samples will be analysed by UWA and the results presented back to class in part two of the program in April. Currently, there is no baseline data on the micro-plastic contamination within the Peel-Yalgorup Ramsar Wetland. The students from Coodanup College are the first to play a vital role in understanding the extent of micro-plastic contamination in the wetland.
This project is supported by Peel-Harvey Catchment Council, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
