The Peel-Harvey Catchment Council is pleased to announce the launch of its 2021-22 Community Environment Grants (CEG) Program. The popular Grant program assists landholders and community groups to protect key environmental assets by directly funding on-ground works such as fencing of bushland, and weed and feral animal control.

This year, the CEG program focuses on four priority areas in the Catchment: on-farm native vegetation Numbat conservation, Banksia Woodland protection and Black Cockatoo habitat.

Funding is available to landholders and community groups to support successful projects across these priority areas, within the Peel-Harvey Catchment.

PHCC Chair, Caroline Knight, launched the program, urging farmers, landholders, community groups, local governments and schools to consider potential projects and on-ground works. “Our CEG Grants have seen many landholders and community groups achieve amazing on-ground works to protect the environment and natural resources on their farm or local reserve”, said Ms Knight.

Our 2021-22 CEG program is focused on a number of threatened species and types of bushland, as well as assisting landholders more broadly who may wish to protect bushland or native vegetation on their farms.

“Our CEGs are very much about both environmental restoration and sustainable farming. Protecting and restoring the environment not only benefits our future generations, but also benefits farming and long-term farm profitability” said Ms Knight.

Expressions of interest (EOI) from eligible landholders and community groups are open from 1st to 30th July 2021. Successful EOIs will then be invited to complete a full application during 2nd to 31st August 2021. Landholders and community groups are encouraged to discuss their project idea and eligibility with the Peel-Harvey Catchment Council as soon as possible. Contact us at the PHCC on 63698801 or email grants@peel-harvey.org.au.

Please note that funding is limited and all applications are assessed by a Steering Committee against the eligible criteria.

The CEG program is supported by the Peel-Harvey Catchment Council, through funding from Newmont Australia, South32 Worsley Alumina and the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program and Environmental Restoration Fund.
