Invitation to Local Artists to Design a Wetland Themed Arts Event

Peel-Harvey Catchment Council has recently launched their new project “Supporting people for wetland wise use in the Peel-Harvey.”

Wise use is the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands and all the services they provide (e.g. crabs, flood protection, bird-watching), for the benefit of people and nature.

The aim of the project is to connect the community with the wetlands and through this connection build understanding that leads to people changing their behaviour to support the health of the wetlands.

As part of the project we would like to invite expressions of interest from professional artists to design and facilitate a Wetlands themed Arts Event. The arts event is to embed a strong environmental message aiming to encourage and support wise use of the wetlands.

This is an opportunity to creatively engage the community and raise awareness about the beauty and uniqueness of the Peel-Yalgorup Wetland.

Engagement methods could include but are not limited to;

  •  Interactive art activities.
  • Workshops.
  • Visual art performances.

The art event could potentially be held at the Stretch Festival, other community events in the Peel-Harvey Catchment, or a small individual event could be designed specifically.

Proposed work must be related to the Ramsar-listed Peel-Yalgorup Wetland System. We encourage ideas that would also involve the local Noongar community and incorporate indigenous performances, site visits on country, and language sharing.

 Interested parties are invited to submit a short concept, no more than 500 words, by the 03rd of March detailing what kind of event they would propose, who the intended target audience is, how they propose to explore the themes and any costs involved.

The “Supporting people for wetland wise use in the Peel-Harvey” project is supported by funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM program, supported by Royalties for Regions.
